“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

I love this quote by the man we honor today. Born in 1929, Michael King was renamed by his father in memory of the man honored as the father of the Reformation.

MLK as he has become known is the first person I am honoring in a new series at the Justice Journey.  This series, entitled the Rogue’s Gallery, is a series to highlight those who inspire me by their actions in the pursuit of justice. MLK’s actions even lead to his arrest in January 1956 as part of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

He lead a life of non-violent resistance to the powers that be. He went to jail in Birmingham (check out his famous Letter from a Birmingham Jail). He was assassinated for his work.

He is a rogue worth following. I use the term affectionately, despite the negative definition. During the time of his work, law enforcement would have considered him a rogue, defined as a dishonest or worthless person by Merriam-Webster. However, time would prove this rogue to be a hero worth emulating. His message of justice transcends race, time and history. It is always timely.

How will you honor MLK’s memory today, this week?
